The first time I made these S’mores Rice Krispie Treats they disappeared so fast I didn’t even get a chance to take pictures! The kids thought they were pretty awesome and were not mad when I had to make another batch.

Here’s what you’ll need to make these delicious little morsels:

  • 1 cube butter, half cup
  • 16 oz. marshmallows
  • 3 regular sized Hershey’s bars
  • 2 cups graham crackers, one sleeve
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • large glass or microwave-safe bowl
  • spatula
  • 9×13 inch pan.

Let’s make S’mores Rice Krispie Treats!

We’re going to use the microwave to make these bad boys. You can make them on the stovetop, but I always end up overheating them that way, and then they get too hard and lose their ooey-gooeyness.

Start by placing your cube of butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave until the butter is melted, then add almost all the marshmallows. Save a big handful to add right at the end so they don’t quite melt all the way. Trust me.

Stir the marshmallows so they are all nice and coated in melted butter. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring each time until just melted. Do not overheat!

Graham Crackers:

You can’t have S’mores Rice Krispie Treats without Graham Crackers! You’ll need about 2 cups of graham cracker crumbs, which happens to be one sleeve or 9 full crackers. I smashed mine right in the package. This is totally optional, but I saved a little bit of the crumbs to sprinkle on the top at the end.

Add the smashed graham crackers to the melted marshmallows and stir to combine.

Rice Krispies:

You can go crazy and splurge on brand name Rice Krispies for this recipe, or just grab a box of Crisp Rice Cereal. I doubt anyone will know the difference, right?

Hershey’s Candy Bars:

Technically, you can use any chocolate bar you like, or throw in some chocolate chips instead, but I really love the Hershey’s milk chocolate bar because it gives that traditional s’mores flavor.

Break two of the Hershey bars into small pieces and gently stir them into the Rice Krispie mixture. I usually wait a minute to do this so it has cooled enough to not melt the chocolate too much. Save the remaining Hershey bar to add to the top. You can add the remaining marshmallows now too.

Spread the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch pan. Press down but not too hard. I like to use the wrapper from the butter to press the mixture down so it doesn’t stick to my hands.

The Finishing Touches:

Break the remaining Hershey’s bar into pieces and evenly-ish add to the top and sprinkle the rest of the graham cracker crumbs as well. Doesn’t that look so yummy?!
