INGREDIENTS FOR PATRIOTIC JELLO CANDIED POPCORN:

  • 8 cups popped popcorn
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 Tbsp. light corn syrup
  • 1 (3 oz.) package gelatin, any flavor
  • red, white, and blue sprinkles, optional

We did this recipe with Cherry Jello for our red and again with Berry Blue for the blue, so double this recipe, then we mixed them together once cooled.

LET’S GET COOKING:

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper lightly sprayed with cooking spray. You will also want to lightly spray the bowl that holds your popcorn so the JELLO doesn’t stick when you pour it in. We also added sprinkles right on our parchment in hopes that it would stick to the popcorn when we put it on.

Grandma Coco helped out and popped the popcorn for us. She always does things the smart way, while I do things the hard way. She put the popcorn in a strainer that has a neat straining lid as well and shook the popcorn over the sink to get out any kernels that didn’t pop.

Place the sugar, butter, and corn syrup in a pan over high heat and stir until melted. Once it is melted, add the small package of gelatin and continue stirring until it reaches a boil. When it reaches a boil, turn the burner down to low heat and simmer while stirring for 5 minutes.

My cute niece stirred both JELLOs while I was busy running around, she’s got skills. 🙂

When the 5 minutes is up you can pour the JELLO mixture over the popcorn and stir to coat somewhat evenly.

We put sprinkles on our parchment paper then poured the popcorn out over it and put more sprinkles on top!

Spread the popcorn out evenly on the cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees for 12 minutes.

Allow it to cool and break the pieces apart and serve. It is so fruity and crunchy and good, which means it disappears FAST!

Try lime JELLO for St. Patrick’s Day, Cherry and Lime for Christmas, Strawberry and Grape for Valentine’s Day. There are so many options and they all sound yummy to me. Our Cherry and Berry Blue were YUMMY!
