KRISPIE KISSES

Sharing is caring!

My Mom, Grandma Coco, used to make these BIG Rice Krispie Kisses for Valentine’s Day. Sometimes we would deliver them to neighbors or my Grandparents for a fun treat. They are super simple to make and the kids will love helping!

Valentine Krispie Kisses made with rice krispie cereal, marshmallows, butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips. They are shaped using a funnel or a tapered bowl. Wrapped in tin foil with a paper tag to resemble a hershey kiss candy.

When Grandma Coco would make these she would use a large funnel, which works so well! You can make these as big or as small as you like depending on what you have to shape them. This time we used our Pampered Chef 1-cup Prep Bowls. These bowls are so handy for so many things and worked well to make our Krispie Kisses nice and uniform.

Bowl of Rice Krispie Treats, a bowl of mini marshmallows, bag of Nestle Toll House milk chocolate chips, and a bag of Classic Hershey Kisses.

Here’s what you will need to make these adorable Krispie Kisses:

  • 1 stick butter, 8 Tablespoons
  • 16 oz. bag of mini marshmallows
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 cups rice krispie cereal
  • 1 11.5 oz. bag of chocolate chips, we used milk chocolate
  • 7-8 Hershey Kisses candies, optional
  • small funnel or tapered bowls
  • Tinfoil to wrap them in
  • Strips of paper and markers

As you wish:

You can switch these up a million ways. After we were done making these my son suggested that we use Cocoa Krispies next time. That is a great option instead of adding the chocolate chips. Or you could use strawberry marshmallows and make them pink! We liked the chocolate so they looked more like Hershey Kisses.

Let’s make ’em:

Add the stick of butter to a pan and melt over medium heat. Once melted add the bag of marshmallows and stir until melted. *This can also be done in the microwave in a large microwave-safe bowl. Stir in the vanilla.

Snap, crackle, pop:

Next, add the chocolate chips and stir well until melted and combined. *Our marshmallows were not the softest, so ours was a little stiff, but they tasted great! Now gently stir in the Rice Krispie cereal.

SHAPES:

Like I said, my Mom would use a funnel to shape her Krispie Kisses, but we couldn’t find any this time so we used these handy little Pampered Chef bowls. We very lightly sprayed them with non-stick cooking spray first. These are 1-cup bowls and this recipe was enough to make 7 Krispie Kisses. While the Krispie mixture was still warm, we added enough to fill the bowl half way and stuck an unwrapped Hershey Kiss in the middle, upside down.

FILL ‘EM UP:

Next, fill the bowl the rest of the way and gentle press down. You want to be careful any time you make rice Krispie treats not to press down too hard or they can become too dense and won’t be as soft and yummy. The bottoms of these bowls are flat, so when we tipped the Krispie Kisses out of them we added a little more to the top to make a point.

SWEET NOTHINGS:

You can write, or type, anything you like on these. We used a paper cutter to cut strips of paper and fine point Sharpies to write little messages. You can skip this part if you want, but we thought it was fun!

WRAP AND TAG:

Cut squares of tin foil large enough to wrap around the Krispie Kisses and place one in the middle of each square. We left the strips of paper long enough that they went underneath the bottom of the Kisses slightly and up and out the top. I’m sure there’s a way to make these look neater, but we just folded the foil up and pressed together!

What messages will you put on your Krispie Kisses? We hope you love this simple recipe and tutorial and have fun making them with family or friends. They are such a fun little treat to sweeten someone’s day. Jamie had fun watching me make these! haha!

Did I mention these were HARD to take pictures of? Well, they were. What wasn’t hard was watching them disappear! We shared them with lots of cousins at my Mom’s house. They are pretty big so we cut them into fourths.
