TWO ROPE BRAIDS with TWO MESSY BUNS hairdo

Sharing is caring!

This two rope braids with two messy buns hairdo is one of the first hairdos we had on our old blog and it went crazy on Pinterest! It is super cute and easy to do! You can mix it up and do different kinds of braids or buns to add variety to a favorite hairstyle.

HOW WE CREATED THIS STYLE:

To create the two ropes with two messy buns hairdo we started with damp hair. I think it’s always easier to get the hair in a nice ponytail if it is slightly damp. You will start by creating four different ponytails. Part the hair from ear to ear on the front and pull the hair from the front of the head into a ponytail on one side and secure with a small elastic.

Next you will part the hair from the bottom of the ear to the bottom of the other ear. I pull that into a loose ponytail to get it out of the way for a minute while I secure the hair left on the bottom into a ponytail on the opposite side as the top ponytail. Then when I have the hair on the top and bottom in ponytails, I take the hair in the middle section and part it down the middle and secure it into two ponytails. Hopefully that makes a little sense. 🙂

Next you will create 2 rope braids. To make the first rope braid, take the hair from the top ponytail and split it into two equal pieces. Twist each piece the same direction, separately, then twist the two twists the opposite direction. Twisting it this way makes it so the twist won’t come apart. Take that rope braid and secure it to the ponytail in the middle on the opposite side. Now just do the same thing with the bottom ponytail, creating a rope braid and secure it to the final ponytail.

To finish off the two rope braids with two messy buns hairdo you will need to create the messy buns! I love using these tiny elastics because they are stretchy and clear colored so they are easy to hide.

Wish I would have taken pictures of this step, but didn’t. Basically I just took sections of the hair and wadded/folded it up and secured it tightly with an elastic. I probably did four or five small sections until all the hair was up in a bun. Then I just tugged lightly on different parts to make it full. This is easier with damp hair as well. Then just finish it off with some hairspray.

I remember taking these pictures and being slightly frustrated that she insisted on holding her stuffed animals, but I look back and she is so sweet! Stop growing up, Miss Emma!

One more view of the side.

Man, she is adorable…and so is this hairdo! We hope you will give it a try!
