This triple rope braid with sock bun is easy peasy and looks so dang cute! These pics were a couple years ago when Emma took ballet and had to have her hair in a bun for class.
To create your own triple rope braids with sock bun:
First you need a sock! We just used an old kids sock that didn’t have a mate and we cut the toe and heel off.
Now you just need to roll it up. You can also use a bun form for this hairdo if you have one. 🙂
We started with damp hair and parted it from ear to ear and left the front out to use for the rope braids. Next we secured the rest of the hair in a high ponytail.
Then we parted the hair in the front into 3 equal sections. Start with the middle section and split it in half to begin the rope braid.
To make a rope braid, simply twist both pieces of hair the same direction, separately, then twist the two twists together the opposite way. Get it?
I LOVE these elastics. I used to buy them at Sally’s Beauty supply, but we live in the boonies and no such place exists here, so I buy them on Amazon! Place your order here.
Make three rope braids and use the small elastics to attach them to the big ponytail.
Next you want to brush or comb the ponytail and put the end through the sock.
Now for the tricky part. I have done this different ways. This time I split the hair from the ponytail and folded it back around the sock and used one of the small elastics to hold it in place as I rolled the hair and the sock. The elastic needs to be loose or it won’t work well. You can do it without the elastic as well, just tricky to keep all the hair from falling out. Emma had some layers in the end of her hair so that made it more tricky. The hair being damp definitely helps with that.
To finish it off, just roll/fold the sock up as you continually tuck the hair in. Maybe I should have done a video of that step? It’s hard to explain in words.
Once the sock bun is all the way rolled up to the head, just secure it in place with a few bobby pins. We love these Conair mini pins because they are easier to hide.
That’s it! We added a cute pink bow…and lots of hairspray!
We hope you will give this Triple Rope Braid with Sock Bun a try! It’s pretty simple and we think it is adorable!
