Jimmy Dean SAUSAGE CHEESE BALLS: Crazy good!

Sharing is caring!

This recipe for Jimmy Dean Sausage Cheese Balls was shared in a group recently and I knew immediately that we needed to try it. We are BIG Jimmy Dean sausage fans around here. We tried them and they did NOT disappoint. This recipe makes 100 one-inch sausage balls which we thought would be too many…until we tried them! They are cheesy, the sausage is always amazing, and the celery and onion give them a little extra somethin’ somethin’.

Jimmy Dean Sausage Cheese Balls made with sausage, sharp cheddar, Bisquick, celery, and onion, on a plate with colorful toothpicks in each ball.

Here’s what you need to make Jimmy Dean Sausage Cheese Balls:

  • 2 lbs. regular Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage
  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 16 oz. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 tsp. minced garlic

Let’s make them!

We started with EXTRA sharp cheddar cheese, but you can use any cheese you like. I bet these would be great with pepper jack. Yum! We love anything Tillamook brand. If you don’t have any baking mix on hand you can make it from scratch.

Tillamook Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese to make Jimmy Dean Sausage Cheese Balls.

Shred up the cheese and dice the celery and onion.

In a large bowl add all ingredients and mix them together. A large spoon works for this or you can get in there with your hands!

*Note:

The original recipe called for only 1 1/4 cups of Bisquick but we thought they were perfect with 2 cups.

THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB:

While you can totally just use a spoon and try to get even amounts of the sausage mixture and roll it into balls, a Pampered Chef Scoop makes the job quick and easy and your Sausage Cheese Balls will all be the exact same size! Roll the mixture into one-inch balls and place an inch or two apart on a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. We were able to fit 35 balls per pan and had a total of 3 pans. Of course, if you don’t need this many you can easily halve the recipe or prepare and freeze the balls to cook at a later date. Remove from the freezer about 30 minutes before baking and bake for 20 to 22 minutes.

TIME TO BAKE:

Bake in a 375-degree oven for 18 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

SERVE ‘EM UP:

These are great warm or at room temp. Make sure to refrigerate leftovers, if you happen to have any! You can stick them in a bowl or put them on a platter and stick toothpicks in each one. Don’t those look irresistible?!

How will you serve them up?

This is my updated recipe using the celery, onion and garlic. Onion and garlic make everything better! I have never added the pepper but I may add it using my peppercorn grinder with the 4 kinds of peppercorn to see what we think. I also use the Jimmy Dean sage variety because it's my dad's favorite. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for posting this! I absolutely love this recipe! I make it every year around Christmas time. I throw everything in the food processor and mix it up that way. I love my food processor! It makes life so much easier. You don’t have to worry about mixing it with a spoon which is really really hard! I do use the cookie scoop from pampered chef to put them into balls. Once they are shaved I put them in an airtight container and separate the layers with wax paper and then freeze any that I don’t plan to cook up right away. When you are ready to cook them, just defrost the ones you need and then cook as directed. Of course you can refrigerate them if you are going to heat them up in the next few days. It makes a lot so it will last you for quite a few weeks over the holidays. It’s a stress free way to have a quick appetizer when people pop over unannounced. I have several copies of this recipe but I really appreciate you putting it on Pinterest so I don’t have to hunt everywhere for it and try and remember where I put it!

Caryn, Thanks for taking the time to comment! Even my Mom goes to my blog for the recipes that I've posted of hers. It definitely makes them easier to find. Also, thanks for the tips about freezing them! They would be great to have ready when company shows up. -Mandy
