INSTANT POT NEW POTATOES AND PEAS

Sharing is caring!

My Mom always makes creamy, delicious new potatoes and peas with ham for our Easter dinner. It is one of my favorites and is special because we didn’t have it often…but you totally could! These potatoes are soooo simple and come together quickly using the Instant Pot. You can definitely make this recipe on the stove top as well.

TO MAKE INSTANT POT NEW POTATOES AND PEAS YOU WILL NEED:

  • 3 lbs new potatoes, or small red potatoes, quartered
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups of fresh or frozen peas
  • 3 Tbsp. chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  •  1 1/2 cups milk
  • salt and pepper

LET’S GET COOKIN’:

Add 1 cup water to the bottom of the Instant Pot liner. Place trivet in the bottom and add potatoes.

Close the lid and turn valve on top to sealing. Set for 5 minutes on high pressure and let it do it’s thing.

When the time is up, do a quick release by carefully turning the valve to venting. When steam is done venting and pin has dropped it is safe to open the lid.

Carefully pour the potatoes out into a colander in the sink to drain. Remove the trivet as well.

Put the liner back in the Instant Pot and set to saute. Add the butter and the chopped onion and cook a few minutes while stirring until onions are translucent.

Next add the flour and stir, stir, stir.

As soon as the flour and butter are incorporated you can pour the milk in.

Whisk and continue to cook for a minute or two until creamy. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Now hit the cancel button on the Instant Pot to turn off the saute feature and pour in the peas. I used a bag of steam-able frozen peas so they were warmed up in the microwave first. I would at least have them at room temperature but they will get hot from the sauce and potatoes.

Give it a stir.

Time to add the potatoes…just dump ’em in.

Gently stir in the potatoes and you are ready to eat!

I decided to make this recipe but tweak it a little bit by adding Green pepper with the onion. Then when it was time for the potatoes to be put in, I added the potatoes and ground beef to make a meal. It turned out delicious.

This recipe turned out great! This has always been a favorite of my husband's so I've made it for years using the microwave to make the sauce. This was actually easier and was delicious! I did use golden potatoes since that's what we had and just cooked them 7 minutes instead of 5. Great side dish for our steak! Thanks for posting a good recipe.
