SIMPLE BONE-IN TURKEY BREAST in the Instant Pot

Raise your hand if you LOVE your Instant Pot! This simple bone-in turkey breast in the Instant Pot cooks for just 30 minutes. Now, you won’t get that beautiful golden color that you do in the oven, but it’s a small price to pay to have a turkey dinner done so quickly. Simple bone-in turkey breast on a platter with cranberries, rosemary, and sliced lemons.

For our Instant Pot Bone-In Turkey Breast you will need:

  • 6 lb. bone-in turkey breast
  • 3 rosemary sprigs
  • half lemon, sliced
  • one onion, chunked
  • 3 stalks of celery, chunked
  • 1/2 stick butter, sliced
  • 2 cups broth
  • 2 tsp. seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1/2 black pepper

To make Instant Pot Bone-In Turkey:

Take the turkey out of the packaging and remove the gravy pouch, if included. Next, rinse the turkey and pat it dry with paper towels. Add the onion, celery, lemon, and rosemary to the turkey cavity. My turkey also had the neck skin still attached so I cut that off. bone-in turkey breast stuffed with onions, celery, lemons, and rosemary. Next carefully add the pats of butter underneath the skin of the turkey.

Seasoning:

For the outside of the turkey, you will need 2 tsp. seasoned salt, 1/2 tsp. each of black pepper, poultry seasoning, and dried parsley. Seasoning to go on bone-in turkey breast. If you prefer unseasoned salt that is fine as well. Mix it together. Seasoning to go on bone-in turkey breast. Then rub the seasonings on the outside of the turkey. Bone-in turkey breast in the Instant Pot Pour the 2 cups of broth into the bottom of the Instant Pot liner. We used Better than Bouillon, chicken flavor, to make our broth. Add the trivet to the liner and place the turkey on it, breast side up. Close the lid and turn the valve to sealing. Set the Instant Pot to manual, high pressure for 30 minutes.

Note:

We used a 6 lb. bone-in turkey breast and cooked it for 30 minutes. If you have a 3 to 4lb turkey you will want to adjust the time to 25 minutes. Just make sure the internal temperature gets to 165 degrees on your meat thermometer. It will take some time to come up to pressure, then the timer will start at 30 and count back until done. Once the timer beeps, turn the Instant Pot to OFF and allow to natural pressure release for 10 minutes. When the 10 minutes are up, turn the valve to venting and release the remaining pressure. When the pressure is released, the pin will drop and you can open the lid.

To brown or not to brown:

Carefully remove the turkey from the Instant Pot. If you would like to brown the turkey under the broiler in the oven for a couple of minutes do that now. Otherwise, put the turkey on a plate or platter and cover it with tin foil, and allow it to rest until ready to serve.

To make turkey gravy:

Pour the liquid from the Instant Pot liner through a mesh strainer into a pot on the stovetop. Whisk together 3 Tbsp. water with 3 Tbsp. corn starch and add to the pot. Boil and whisk mixture until thickened. You can also just do this right in the Instant Pot, but my veggies had escaped so I chose to do it on the stovetop. To thicken the gravy in the Instant Pot, remove the trivet and press the saute button. Add the cornstarch and water mixture and whisk until thickened. Turkey gravy in a serving pitcher. Turkey dinner can be on the table in no time with this Instant Pot Bone-In Turkey Breast recipe. The turkey comes out perfectly moist and infused with flavor. The pressure really seals in the flavor of the rosemary, lemon, onion, and celery as well as the other seasonings. No more waiting hours for the turkey to cook.
Ingredients
  • 6 lb. bone-in turkey breast
  • 4 Tbsp. butter, sliced
  • 1 onion, chunked
  • 3 stalks of celery, chunked
  • 2 or 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • ½ lemon, chunked
  • 2 tsp. seasoned salt
  • ½ tsp. poultry seasoning
  • ½ tsp. parsley
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • 2 cups broth, chicken or vegetable
  • If making gravy:
  • 3 Tbsp. corn starch
  • 3 Tbsp. water
Instructions
  1. Remove the turkey from the packaging, and remove the turkey packet if there is one.
  2. Rinse the turkey and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Chop your veggies.
  4. Add lemon, rosemary, celery, and onion to the turkey cavity.
  5. Carefully place pats of butter under the turkey skin.
  6. Combine seasoned salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, and dried parsley together in a bowl.
  7. Rub the seasoning onto the outside of the turkey.
  8. Place the trivet in the Instant Pot and add 2 cups of broth to the bottom.
  9. Place the turkey on the trivet, breast side up.
  10. Close the lid and ensure the valve is turned to sealing.
  11. Cook on high pressure for 30 minutes, with less time for a small turkey.
  12. When time is up, turn the Instant Pot off and allow it to naturally release pressure for 10 minutes.
  13. After 10 minutes, turn the valve to venting and release any remaining pressure.
  14. Once the pin has dropped, remove the lid.
  15. Carefully remove the turkey to a plate or platter then cover it with tin foil and allow it to rest.
  16. To make gravy in the Instant Pot:
  17. Remove trivet.
  18. Press the saute button.
  19. Whisk together cornstarch and water and add to the pot.
  20. Cook and stir until thickened.
  21. Slice the turkey and serve hot.
