Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert

Sharing is caring!

You guys, I am starting to have lots of “grandma” recipes on the blog and it makes me so happy! This particular Grandma was not technically MY Grandma. She was my cousin’s Grandma, but I loved her, spent time with her, and called her Grandma. Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert is a family favorite. Granny had a BIG raspberry patch in her backyard so raspberries were always plentiful. This dessert has it all, crunchy/crumbly crust and topping, tart berries in Danish Dessert, and a delicious, sweet, and creamy layer!

Grandma Daley's Famous Raspberry Dessert

My family and I recently went raspberry picking at a berry farm that my daughter worked at this summer. The kids had a blast picking berries and we ended up with 6 pounds! I knew I needed to get the recipe for Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert to use some of them. We also made some yummy freezer jam and put the rest in the freezer to enjoy later.

Before I made Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert, I made sure to call my cousin Ashley AND my Aunt Deb to get all the details to make sure I made it the “right” way. I questioned the need for Dream Whip and wondered if I could just use Cool Whip, but I was told they do NOT taste the same. 🙂 I made it just as I was told and it is incredible and just the way I remember it.

My cousin, Ashley, always requests Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert for her birthday. It’s that good!

Ingredients for Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, walnuts or pecans
  • 1 box Raspberry Danish Dessert
  • 1 and 3/4 cups water
  • 1 pkg. frozen raspberries, or fresh, about 1.5 cups
  • 1 8oz. package cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 packages Dream Whip, it comes with 4 packages in a box
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

First things first:

First, chop the nuts. Aunt Deb likes to use walnuts for this recipe, but I only had pecans on hand and prefer them, so that’s what I used. To make the crust, combine the brown sugar, butter, flour, and chopped nuts.

Press the crumbly mixture into the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes until lightly golden brown.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool while you prepare the next layers.

RASPBERRY LAYER:

For the second layer, combine the Raspberry Danish Dessert and 1 and 3/4 cups water in a pan. Bring to a boil while stirring continually. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly before adding the raspberries.

DREAM LAYER:

For the delicious creamy layer, prepare the two packages of Dream Whip by whipping 1 cup cold milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, and the two packages of powder together until stiff peaks form.

In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. This is easier if the cream cheese is at room temperature.

Now fold the cream cheese mixture and Dream Whip mixture together until smooth.

ASSEMBLE THE LAYERS:

Once the crust has cooled, cut it in half and crumble it. Reserve one half for the top and spread the second half in the bottom of the pan.

Carefully spread the Raspberry Danish Dessert layer over the crumbles. Then, on top of the Raspberry Danish Dessert, you will spread the creamy layer.

To finish it off, sprinkle the second half of crumbles over the cream layer.

You can enjoy it now or refrigerate it to enjoy later. It just gets better after chilling in the fridge!

Are you drooling yet? This is seriously sooooooo yummy!

We hope you give Grandma Daley’s Famous Raspberry Dessert a try!
