Gorgeous Galvanized Metal Hydrangea Door Hanger

Sharing is caring!

We LOVED our Galvanized Metal Summer Door Hanger so much but decided to change things up. This Spring we made this Galvanized Metal Hydrangea Door Hanger and absolutely love it! This would look so pretty in different colors.

TO MAKE THIS GALVANIZED METAL HYDRANGEA DOOR HANGER YOU WILL NEED:

PUTTING TOGETHER YOUR GALVANIZED METAL HYDRANGEA DOOR HANGER:

I found this awesome metal decor piece at the floral shop I was working at at the time. Lucky for you, you can buy the same one on Amazon HERE.  My kitchen was my design space for this project and the back of my chair made a great place to hang the piece so that I could design. When I am designing something that will be hanging on the wall or door, like a wreath, I like to have it hang as I design. It gives the right perspective so that it will look good hanging. You can totally just lay it down on the counter to design it. I just prefer to do it this way.

USE WHAT YOU HAVE:

Because I was revamping this from a previous design, it already had the foam and moss in it. I used one brick of dry floral foam and cut it into three sections and glued them to the bottom of each. You can use floral pins to pin the moss into place but I just laid mine on there. I love using moss to hide my “mechanics.” It makes the finished product look more professional and you don’t have to worry about adding tons of flowers and greenery to cover the foam. I used 3 different colors of hydrangea for this project. We live in a very small town and I just purchased these stems at Walmart. I am usually kind of a flower snob, but I thought these didn’t look half bad!

TRIM:

The hydrangeas were really big and full so I took my wire cutters and cut the stems into sections.

Hot glue the flowers into the foam to fill in the space. My hydrangeas were different sizes, but I used one stem of each color and only half a stem of one of them.

TIME FOR GREENERY:

Once the flowers are all in place you will add the greenery. I love the look of the BIG hydrangea leaves so I cut them off to use and just hot glued them to the metal so they would lie down flat.

RECYCLE:

These sprigs of greenery are what I pulled out of the previous design. I just re-used them. You can use any type of greenery for this. Ivy would be pretty. I suggest using several different kinds to add texture and variety.

Add pieces of the greenery throughout the design. I focused on them hanging down under the flowers.

KEEP GOING:

Continue until you have added greenery to all three sections and it looks the way you want. This is like art, there is no right or wrong way, just make it look pretty to YOU!

That’s it! Simple and pretty. Please let us know if you make one for yourself and we would LOVE to see pictures!
