We LOVE the way this Dollar Store Farmhouse Egg Wreath turned out! We started with items found at the dollar store…you can’t beat that!
To create your own Dollar Store Farmhouse Egg Wreath you will need:
- Mod Podge
- A dozen plastic Easter eggs
- A bag of Spanish Moss
- Wire Wreath Frame
- Tissue Paper, any color
- Paint in neutral colors
- Foam paint brushes
- Rub N’ Buff in gold
- Neutral Ribbon
How to put it all together:
Start by making sure that all the eggs are closed tightly. My one-year-old had a blast playing with these for a week before I started the project so we had to hunt them down and put them all back together. 🙂 We have used this same technique with Mod Podge and tissue paper to create texture on several different projects. My favorite was our Steampunkins. Start by painting the egg with a little bit of Mod Podge and add the tissue paper. You can use any color of tissue paper you want because you will be painting over it. I crinkle my tissue paper up really well before I start so that it is nice and wrinkly.
Continue applying the tissue paper with the Mod Podge until the egg is covered. You will want to paint and dab the Mod Podge on the outside of the egg as well. My 12-year-old daughter loved helping me with this project.
Keep going until you have all 12 eggs good and wrinkly! Let them dry. I gently laid them on the table for a while, then carefully turned them so the bottom would dry too.
To assemble the wreath:
We found this wreath and moss at the Dollar Store as well. I just added hot glue to the wire and carefully pressed the moss down until it dried. It was a messy, but effective process. 🙂
Painting the eggs:
Once the eggs were dry we used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, Duck Egg, and French Linen. We LOVE these neutral colors and it took very, very little paint for this project. You can use any paint you would like, just keep in mind if the paint has a glossy finish the final project will look glossy as well.
It’s always so amazing to me how much a coat of paint can change things!
I really LOVE these colors.
Time for the Rub ‘N Buff MAGIC:
Once the paint has dried you get to play with the Rub ‘N Buff! This is my FAVORITE part. I just used my fingers to apply it but you could use a Q-Tip or something. I just rub a little gently between my fingers and rub just the outside surface of the egg to bring out the texture. So beautiful!
Crazy how that is just tissue paper, Mod Podge, paint, and Rub ‘N Buff, right?! I used two colors of gold on these. Once all the eggs were GORGEOUS, I laid them along the moss and moved them around until they looked good and evenly spaced.
Finishing touches:
Next, I used hot glue to attach them to the moss. You will want to press down tightly as they dry. If any are loose just add a little more glue. As a finishing touch, I decided to tie some little ribbons between each egg.
We love the way this project turned out. We have an old chicken wire cage door that we hung it on for now.
Let us know what you think of this project and please share any pictures with us if you decide to make one for yourself!
