This was such a fun Halloween. I love to do themed costumes for my kids but I knew that I wanted Emma to be a peacock and had no idea what would go with that. I found this super cute owl costume at a Halloween shop and decided it was perfect for Levi and they could both just be birds!
These costumes were so fun to put together and the kids LOVE them. After I got the final details all finished we decided to do a photo shoot. We spent some time and got hair and make-up done. SO MUCH PINK MAKEUP! Then we rushed out the door before it got too late and we lost light. We decided the park would be the perfect place for Mario and Princess Peach to hang out. The kids had fun playing and I enjoyed taking their pictures.
I absolutely love these jars and have so much fun switching them out for different seasons and holidays. I made them a while ago with jars from Hobby lobby, candlestick holders and finials from yard sales and thrift stores. There are about a million ways you can make your own jars. One of the tops of mine is actually an old bottle of Avon perfume found at a yard sale! Just look for the right shapes and sizes. Paint is magic! I spray painted each of the pieces then used E6000 to glue the jars to the candlestick holders. E6000 is a heavy duty glue. You can buy it at craft stores. I think I just got mine at a big box store. When you glue the jars on make sure they are somewhere safe where they won’t get bumped and knocked over. They will need to dry overnight. I also glued the finials to the jar lids. The tricky part was getting them centered in the middle!
Do you ever have an idea that totally consumes you? Like…you think about it constantly? Mostly in the middle of the night when you should be sleeping? That is what happened with the idea for these steampunkins! I spent some time looking at steampunk style online and made a trip to a couple local thrift shop for “parts.” I know they are totally crazy and over the top…but I love them. I am glad to have them done though. Now I can just sit and look at them and smile. 🙂
This is another Halloween costume idea from years past. I had found this super adorable spider costume online at The Children’s Place and had to have it for Levi. Unfortunately my order was returned because they didn’t think my address existed. We lived no where near a Children’s Place at the time, so I called my awesome sister-in-law and she ran to her store and found the only one left in his size, on sale for TEN BUCKS, and mailed it to me! Because I think matching costumes are the best thing ever I had to come up with something for Emma to match. I decided on Miss Muffet and was so happy when Emma agreed that it was a good idea. I called my mom and told her my dilemma. I needed a Miss Muffet costume but I posess no sewing skills. My mom happens to be an AMAZING seamstress! Emma wanted it in blue so Grandma whipped it up and sent it with the spider costume. I was blown away by how adorable it was!!! The package arrived the day before our first Halloween party. I have the best family ever.
We LOVE Halloween at our house! We had so much fun making these costumes and doing a little photo shoot. The best part? I spent under $15.00 for both! We used items that the kids already had and accessorized from there.
